At our hospital, those who receive ultra-high concentration vitamin C intravenous drip (25g) undergo a blood test to check for the presence of a genetic disease called G6PD deficiency. For people with G6PD deficiency, there is a risk that if a certain amount of vitamin C is administered by infusion, red blood cells will be destroyed and hemolysis may occur.The probability of a Japanese person having this disease is rare, less than 0.5%, but it cannot be ruled out, so testing is necessary. The results of the G6PD test are available in about 30 minutes.
*Blood test will only be taken on the first visit. It is not necessary from the second time onwards.
