Permanent makeup is a treatment that fixes pigments to the very shallow layers of the skin, making them resistant to washing and sweat, and maintaining a well-defined appearance even when wearing no makeup. We carefully consider your bone structure, facial expressions, and skin type to propose a natural design that is not excessive. We will bring out your natural beauty, "looking like you're wearing makeup, but not like you're wearing any makeup," by tailoring it to your individual lifestyle and ideal look.
Permanent makeup is recommended for these people
Permanent makeup is recommended for those who want to make daily makeup easier and maintain a natural look even without makeup. It is also popular among those who have concerns about the finish and durability of their makeup, and those who are concerned about makeup coming off due to their lifestyle.
- Those who want to reduce their daily makeup time
(Example: I'm busy in the morning/I don't have time to put on makeup) - Those who are not good at makeup or are not confident about the finished look
(Example: differences between left and right sides are likely to occur/the results are not as expected) - Those who are concerned about makeup coming off due to sweat or water
(Examples: sports, gyms, saunas, swimming pools, hot springs, etc.) - Those who are beginning to worry about changes in facial features due to aging
(Example: I look tired/my complexion has decreased)

What is Permanent Makeup?
Permanent makeup is a medical technique that uses specialized needles and machines to fix pigments to the epidermis (very shallow layer) of the skin at a medical institution under the supervision of a doctor. Unlike tattoos, which apply pigments to the deeper layers of the dermis, permanent makeup is characterized by the fact that it gradually fades over time, and is expected to last for approximately 1 to 3 years (this may vary from person to person).
Because it is resistant to sweat, water, and sebum, you can enjoy sports, hot springs, the pool, and other activities without worrying about your makeup coming off, and it also reduces the time it takes to apply makeup each morning.
Anesthesia cream is used during the procedure, and pain is minimized. To ensure the pigment is stable and fixed, the procedure is usually completed in stages over two to three sessions.
There are techniques suited to each area, such as "hair (3D)" for eyebrows, which draws each individual hair, "powder (2D)" for a soft, makeup-like finish, and "mix (4D)," which combines both. There are also a wide variety of other areas that can be treated, such as "eyeliner" to fill in the gaps between eyelashes and naturally accentuate the eyes, "lips" to cover dullness and even out complexion, "hairline" to style the hairline, and "beauty spots" to accentuate attractive features.
Taking into consideration bone structure, golden ratio, and facial muscle movement, we will propose designs and colors that suit each individual's wishes and lifestyle.

Permanent makeup is performed by medical professionals
Permanent makeup is a treatment provided at medical institutions with medically qualified staff. Because it is a medical procedure that fixes pigments to the skin, it is performed under the supervision of a doctor by qualified staff such as nurses, and in an environment where tools are sterilized and hygiene is strictly controlled. At Elm Clinic, we provide thorough counseling before the procedure, confirming the condition of your skin, the desired design, and the desired finished image, and then propose a reasonable treatment plan. Because we provide treatment from a medical perspective, we have a system in place that makes it easy to consult about post-treatment progress and care.
Treatment by a medical professional (nurse)About the pigments used in permanent makeup
Elm Clinic stocks permanent makeup pigments for eyebrows, eyeliner, moles, and lips from four overseas companies. We use extremely safe pigments approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration). Furthermore, unlike tattoo pigments, the permanent makeup pigments we use contain extremely low levels of metal, meaning that patients can generally undergo MRI scans without any problems. However, we recommend that anyone with severe metal allergies undergo a patch test just to be safe.

Eyebrows
We will create a natural design based on bone structure and the golden ratio while addressing any concerns you may have about your eyebrows, such as thin, sparse, or uneven brows. We also address issues such as insufficient hair growth due to past self-treatment, alopecia, or hair loss due to treatment, and aim for a finish that looks natural even when you're not wearing makeup.
[Recommended for] People with thin or sparse eyebrows / People who are concerned about the shape or difference between the left and right eyebrows / People who want to achieve a natural look

Lips
This design gives your lips a natural flush, brightening the entire face. It's also suitable for those who are concerned about dullness or paleness, or who want to smooth out blurred contours that have become blurred with age. Because it has color even without lipstick, it's easy to wear a mask without worrying about color transfer.
[Recommended for] Those who are concerned about dull lips or a pale complexion / Those who want to define their lips / Those who want to reduce the effort of applying makeup
-

Eyeline
This design naturally accentuates the eyes by filling in the gaps between the eyelashes. Rather than drawing the lashes thickly, the lines blend in with the natural look of your face, creating a powerful impression even without makeup. It is also recommended for those with few eyelashes that make the eyes look dull.
[Recommended for] Those who want to make their eyes look naturally brighter / Those who feel they have few eyelashes / Those who want to reduce the time it takes to apply eye makeup
-

mole
This is a procedure to design moles as charming features, such as teardrop moles. By adding a small accent, you can create an impressive and attractive look. We adjust the position and size to achieve a natural-looking balance.
[Recommended for] Those who want to add an accent to their eyes or lips / Those who want to add a subtle touch of individuality

About Permanent Makeup for Men
Interest in permanent makeup is growing year by year, even among men. Eyebrows are often chosen as a feature that greatly influences first impressions, and simply shaping them naturally can improve the impression of cleanliness and trustworthiness.
At Elm Clinic, we propose designs that suit your bone structure and mood, from a straight, powerful impression to a soft, androgynous impression. We are conscious of creating a three-dimensional effect like your own eyebrows, and place importance on a natural finish that does not look overly "drawn."
It is chosen not only by those who are concerned about thin eyebrows or lack of hair in certain areas, but also by those in customer service or sales jobs where first impressions are important.

permanent makeup removal
About permanent makeup removal
Permanent makeup gradually fades over time, but it does not disappear completely. If you wish to have it removed, treatment with a pico laser or Q-switched ruby laser is possible, but depending on the type of pigment and how deeply it has settled, it may not completely return to your original skin condition. Depending on the color and how deeply it has settled, it may not respond well or multiple treatments may be required. Also, depending on the condition of the area to be removed, laser irradiation may be difficult, so please consult us first.

Tips for avoiding mistakes when applying permanent makeup
Once permanent makeup is applied, it can be difficult to completely restore it, so it's important to choose a design and color that takes future changes into account, rather than just deciding based on current preferences. Eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips are particularly susceptible to trends and age-related changes, and applying them too dark, thick, or long can feel unnatural in a few years and be difficult to correct.
The standard for the finished look is to "blend in naturally with no makeup," and if you think about adjusting any imperfections with makeup, it will be easier to create a design that is easy to match with any occasion and that you won't get tired of. Trying to perfectly match the left and right sides can also make it look unnatural, so it's important to focus on a natural balance that takes into account facial expressions and bone structure.
Also, it can be difficult to judge based on just photos taken immediately after the procedure, so the quickest way to reduce failure is to choose a medical institution that will carefully explain the risks, progress, and future changes during counseling.
- Don't just decide based on current trends, but also consider future changes such as aging and sagging skin.
- Don't apply it too thickly or long (leave some space to add makeup)
- Choose a color and shape that blends in with your bare face, and adjust with makeup to suit the occasion.
- Don't force the left and right sides to be too even, but create a natural balance based on the bone structure and facial expressions.
- Don't make a snap decision based solely on "immediate photos" on social media, but get thorough counseling
Treatment overview
| Duration of treatment | 2 to 3 hours |
|---|---|
| Side effects | There may be some redness after the treatment.Redness usually subsides within 1 to 2 days, but it may take up to a week. (During this period, you cannot use scrubs, etc.) Internal bleeding, swelling, infection, or allergies may occur. |
| Points to note | Moisturize your skin as it helps the skin regenerate and improves the color retention. To prevent infection, please refrain from using facilities that are used by an unspecified number of people, such as make-up, swimming pools, hot springs, and saunas, to avoid secondary infection. |
*Pain, downtime, and effects vary from person to person.
*The treatment time does not include counseling time.
*Pregnant women cannot undergo any treatments.
Permanent makeup side effects, downtime, aftercare, and precautions
After the procedure, you may experience temporary swelling and redness.
Permanent makeup is a medical procedure that involves injecting pigment into the skin with a needle, so you may experience swelling, redness, and a tingling sensation immediately after the procedure.
Eyeliner and lipstick are particularly prone to swelling, but in most cases it will subside within 1-2 days. If symptoms are severe or persist, please consult a medical institution as soon as possible.
Downtime is approximately one week
After the procedure, there will be a temporary period when the color will appear darker. In the case of eyebrows, they may appear darker than expected immediately after the procedure, but a thin scab will begin to peel off around the 3rd or 4th day, and the color will settle to a natural color in about a week.
During this period, it is important not to forcefully touch the area and to monitor its progress.
Do not forcefully peel off the scab
You may experience itching, thin scabs, or peeling skin from around 2-3 days after the procedure.
If you try to peel it off forcefully, you may remove the pigment that is starting to set, so moisturize the area with prescribed Vaseline or other products and wait for it to peel off naturally.
It doesn't disappear completely
Permanent makeup gradually fades due to cell turnover, but the pigment that has entered the skin may not be completely expelled.
Although it is said that they will disappear in a few years, there is no guarantee that they will return to their original state, and laser treatment may be required for removal. It is important to choose a natural design that takes future changes into account.
Possibility of discoloration and bleeding over time
Over time, the black pigment may turn bluish or reddish-brown, and there is also a risk of the pigment bleeding and spreading in areas with thin skin.
Be careful with designs that are too trendy or extreme shapes, as they may look unnatural in the future.
Cases where it tends to be difficult to establish
The dye may not adhere well in the following cases:
- Those with oily skin ––– If you have a lot of sebum, your skin is more likely to smudge and lose its color.
- Those with thin skin ––– May bleed easily and ink may run easily.
- Those who exercise a lot ––– Due to active metabolism, color retention may be shortened.
Please refrain from activities that increase metabolism after treatment.
For 3 days to 1 week after the treatment, please refrain from activities that raise your body temperature or metabolism, such as bathing, sauna, strenuous exercise, and drinking alcohol.
Increased metabolism can increase bleeding and pigment excretion, which may affect adhesion. Also, avoid applying makeup or cleansing to the treatment area for about a week.
If you cannot undergo treatment or if careful consideration is required
There are cases where you cannot undergo treatment or where careful consideration is required, such as if you have metal allergies, are prone to keloids, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Please consult with each clinic for details.
You can also make a reservation through the permanent makeup website.

FAQ
What is eyebrow permanent makeup?
For details on eyebrow permanent makeup designs, techniques, and finishes, please see the dedicated page.
For more detailed information such as design types and case photos,Eyebrow art page.
What is the difference between permanent makeup and tattoos?
The depth of pigmentation and how it lasts varies.
Permanent makeup fixes pigments in the shallow layers of the skin, so it generally fades over time. On the other hand, tattoos apply pigments to deeper layers of the skin, so they remain semi-permanently. However, there is no guarantee that permanent makeup will return to its original state, so please be sure to fully understand this before considering it.
Is there any pain during the treatment?
Before the procedure, topical anesthesia is administered and pain is minimized.
Anesthesia cream is applied before the procedure to minimize discomfort. Pain perception varies from person to person, but most people find it tolerable. If lip treatment is not effective enough, anesthesia via block injection is also available.
How long is the downtime?
It depends on the area, but the recommended time is about a week.
Immediately after the procedure, the area may appear darker in color, redness, and slight swelling may occur. After a few days, a thin scab will naturally peel off and the swelling will gradually subside.
Can you make it the color I want?
After listening to your requests, we will propose the optimal dye, taking into consideration even after fixation.
Since the color of permanent makeup changes over time and depending on the skin type, we do not simply use the desired color as is. We actually apply it to the skin to check the color development and compatibility, and select the color with an eye toward future changes.
Can I wear makeup or take a bath on the day of the treatment?
Please refrain from applying makeup to the treatment area for approximately one week.
Makeup can be applied to areas not treated from the day of the procedure.
We also recommend that you refrain from activities that excessively stimulate blood circulation for a few days, such as strenuous exercise, saunas, prolonged bathing, and drinking alcohol. You can wash your face or take a shower, but be careful not to rub the treatment area too hard.
What should I do about contact lenses or eyelash extensions on the day of eyeliner treatment?
It must be removed during treatment.
Please refrain from wearing contact lenses on the day of the procedure and for a few days afterwards, and wear glasses instead. For reasons of hygiene and treatment accuracy, we recommend that you remove your contact lenses before coming to the clinic for eyelash extensions.
Can I have an MRI scan?
In principle, this is possible, but please be sure to declare it.
The permanent makeup pigments we use at our clinic have an extremely low metal content, so you can generally undergo MRI scans without any problems. However, permanent makeup can cause burns and may affect the test results. Please be sure to inform the doctor that you are wearing permanent makeup before undergoing an MRI scan.
Can permanent makeup be removed?
It is possible to thin it with a laser, but it is not easy to completely remove it.
Removal may require multiple treatments and costs. Depending on the color and depth, the skin may not return to its original state completely, and a slight color may remain, so we recommend a design that is not too extensive, assuming future retouching.
