Be confident with your bare face and achieve natural, beautiful eyebrows that look like you're wearing makeup

Eyebrow art image
Treatment name Eyebrow art
Side effects/risks Redness, bruising, swelling, infection, and allergies may occur.
cost The first session is 50,000 JPY (tax included) to 75,000 JPY (tax included). It usually takes 2 to 3 sessions to complete the treatment.

This procedure uses a special ultra-fine needle to fix pigments in the very shallow layers of the skin, creating natural, beautiful eyebrows that will not come off even with washing your face or sweat. Experienced medical professionals will take into consideration your bone structure and golden ratio, and propose a custom-made eyebrow design that is optimal for each individual's desired image.

Eyebrow art is recommended for these people

Eyebrow art is a recommended procedure for those who want to make their daily eyebrow makeup easier or who are unsure of what eyebrows suit them best. It's also suitable for those whose makeup easily comes off with sweat or water, or those who are too busy to take the time to touch up their makeup. It's also chosen as a way to maintain a natural, well-defined look by those who are concerned about thin or uneven eyebrows, or who are aware of changes in their eyebrows due to age.

  • Those who have trouble with daily eyebrow makeup
(Example: I want to reduce the time it takes to apply makeup / I'm not good at drawing eyebrows / I can't draw them symmetrically)
  • Those who live a lifestyle where their eyebrows tend to fall off due to sweat or water
(Example: You are concerned about your makeup coming off when playing sports, going to the gym, swimming pool, or going to a hot spring.)
  • Those who are concerned about thin eyebrows or differences between left and right
(Example: Sparse eyebrows/eyebrows that grow slowly/concerned about past self-treatment or scars)
  • Those who are concerned about age-related changes in their eyebrows
(Examples: thinning hair and gray hair due to aging/drooping eyebrows make you look tired)

Elm Clinic's commitment to eyebrow art

Custom-made eyebrow designs for each individual

Eyebrow art greatly affects the overall impression of the face, so it is important to create a design that emphasizes naturalness and balance.
At Elm Clinic, we use the golden ratio as a guideline to perform eyebrow art treatments that emphasize harmony with facial features, checking the width of the space between the eyebrows, the position of the brow arch, and the angle of the brow tail.
We carefully assess the bone structure, facial muscle movement, and balance of features, and finely adjust the shape to fit your face comfortably. Furthermore, we aim for a natural, seamless finish, taking into account your lifestyle, everyday makeup, and the impression you want to give.
Through extensive consultation, we will design eyebrows that are tailored to each individual, making it easy to apply makeup every day and offering eyebrow art that will give you long-lasting satisfaction.

Eyebrow art that continues to hone its skills while building up a track record

Elm Clinic's permanent makeup service, which began in earnest in 2014, has been continuously updating its techniques in eyebrow art based on its many years of experience.
We offer a variety of treatments to suit your needs and the natural look you desire, including hand-drawn eyebrows, machine-applied powder eyebrows, and even a combination of both, called hand-drawn eyebrows and powder.
Our practitioners regularly undergo training both domestically and internationally to hone their skills to handle a wide range of cases, including corrections from other clinics and machine-assisted hair stroke eyebrows.
The knowledge gained through over 4,000 cases per year is shared among artists nationwide, and a systematic training system is in place to standardize and improve techniques.
With both our proven track record and educational system, we provide eyebrow art that you can receive with confidence.

What is eyebrow art?

Eyebrow art (brow makeup) is a medical technique that uses a medical needle to deposit pigment into the very shallow layer of the skin (approximately 0.01 to 0.03 mm) to create eyebrow designs. Unlike tattoos, it fades gradually over time due to skin turnover (metabolism).
It's also resistant to sweat, water, and washing your face, so you can keep your brows looking neat for 24 hours, reducing the time it takes to apply makeup each morning. You don't have to worry about your brows disappearing, even when you're at the pool, gym, or hot spring.
The procedure is performed using topical anesthesia, with consideration given to pain. The pigmentation and duration of the effect vary from person to person, but generally lasts for about 1 to 2 years.
There are also techniques such as "hair (3D)" which draws each individual hair, "powder (2D)" which gives a soft impression, and "mix (4D/combination)" which combines both. The most suitable method is chosen according to the skin type and condition of your eyebrows, and it is generally done in multiple sessions (2-3 times) to gradually finish the process.

Image of permanent makeup

Eyebrow art is medical permanent makeup performed by medical professionals

Eyebrow art is a type of medical permanent makeup that can only be performed at clinics with medical professionals on staff. Because it is a treatment on the skin, it is performed by medical professionals such as doctors and nurses, and in an environment that takes into consideration hygiene management and sterilization of tools. Prior to the treatment, a consultation is given with emphasis, and a treatment plan is proposed after confirming the condition of the skin, the shape of the eyebrows, and the desired end result. Because the treatment is performed based on medical knowledge, it is easy to provide post-treatment care and consultation.

About pigments used in eyebrow art

When choosing colors for eyebrow art, safety is an important consideration as well as the beauty of the finished product.
Medical permanent makeup uses special pigments that are different from those used in tattoos, and pigments with an extremely low metal content are selected.
Elm Clinic uses highly safe pigments approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) from among the specialized permanent makeup pigments from four overseas companies. They generally do not interfere with MRI scans, and we recommend patch tests beforehand for those concerned about metal allergies. Furthermore, we do not simply choose pigments based on color, but also consider skin tone, future color changes, and the impression after they have set.
As a medical institution, we strictly adhere to hygiene standards, including disposable needles, and perform eyebrow art that is gentle on the skin.

Types of eyebrow art designs and techniques

Types of Eyebrow Art Designs

  • Parallel arch eyebrows illustration

    Parallel arched eyebrows

This design has parallel brows from the beginning to the arch, with a gentle arch (curve) towards the end. It gives an impression of both cuteness and maturity, and is the most popular shape that suits many people regardless of age.

[Suitable for] Suitable for many people regardless of age or bone structure

  • Parallel eyebrows illustration

    parallel eyebrows

This design draws the eyebrows in a straight line from the beginning to the end, without any angle. It gives a youthful, cute, and protective impression. It has the effect of making the vertical width of the face appear shorter, so it is particularly suitable for those with long faces.

[Suitable for] People with long faces (has the effect of making the vertical width of the face appear shorter)

  • Image explaining arched eyebrows

    Arched Eyebrows

The design has a rounded curve overall. It gives a feminine and elegant impression. If you have a round face, it will give your face a three-dimensional look and make you look slimmer.

Suitable for: People with round faces (give your face a three-dimensional look and make it look slimmer)

  • Image of straight eyebrows

    Straight eyebrows

This design is straight up to the arch of the brow and neatly draws the end of the brow. It gives off a cool, intelligent, and determined impression. By adding a slight angle, it can cover the contours of those with a square jaw and can also make the face look smaller.

Suitable for: People with square jaw lines (conceals the contours and makes the face look firmer)

*Names may vary depending on the clinic. Please contact each clinic for details.

Types of eyebrow art techniques

  • Powder brow description image

    Powder Brows

This technique involves applying pigment in small dots to create a soft gradation, similar to that achieved with eyebrow powder. It's easy to create a clear guideline, which also shortens the time it takes to apply makeup every day. Another feature is that the color lasts relatively long.

[Recommended for] People with thin or sparse eyebrows, people who normally wear heavy makeup, and people with oily skin

  • Description of fur (3D)

    coat(3D)

This technique uses a special needle to draw each eyebrow hair in a way that makes them look like real hair. It creates a natural, bunched look, and is characterized by the fact that it doesn't look out of place even when you're not wearing makeup. It's also popular among men, as it doesn't give the impression that you're wearing permanent makeup.
*As a type of hair styling technique, we also offer "hair strokes" that use a machine to create a more delicate flow of hair. (Currently available only at our Fukuoka and Omotesando clinics)

[Recommended for] Those who want natural volume and three-dimensional eyebrows

  • Powder brow + hair texture (4D) image

    Powder brows + hair texture(4D)

This technique combines the three-dimensionality and naturalness of fur with the makeup look and color stability of powder, which are applied to the gaps and overall color of the hair. This technique is popular with people of all ages.

[Recommended for] Those who want both a natural and moderate makeup look, and those who only have partial eyebrows (those who want to naturally trim the difference between the haired and unhaired areas)

*Names may vary depending on the clinic. Please contact each clinic for details.

Tips for avoiding mistakes when doing eyebrow art

Tips for choosing an eyebrow art design

When choosing an eyebrow art design, it's important not to follow trends too closely. Bold designs can easily become too thick, too long, or too dark as trends change, making them difficult to correct later. It's important to base your design on a shape that suits your facial contours, checking the movement of your bone structure and facial muscles, and designing in a comfortable position.
Also, if you try too hard to completely eliminate the difference between the left and right sides, it can end up looking unnatural. By being conscious of a natural balance, you can create eyebrows that blend in well with your facial expression. Don't try to achieve 100% perfection with permanent makeup alone, but aim for a finish that looks natural even without makeup, and think of adjusting any areas that are lacking with makeup, and you'll be able to maintain eyebrows that you won't tire of for a long time.

Summary of points
  • Avoid eyebrows that are too thick, too long, or too low, and create a design that is easy to adjust.
  • Don't follow trends too much, but focus on the balance of the bone structure, facial muscles, and the entire face.
  • Don't try to force the left and right sides to be even, and value a natural balance.
  • Don't aim for 100% perfection, but aim for a finish that looks natural even without makeup.

Tips for choosing eyebrow color

To avoid making mistakes when choosing the color for your eyebrow art, it's important to consider not only matching it to your current hair color, but also how the color will change depending on your skin type and how easily you can adjust it in the future. In particular, don't apply it too dark the first time, but start with a slightly lighter color, as this will make it easier to adjust while minimizing the risk of discoloration.
Also, depending on your skin type, the same color may appear darker, so those with oily skin need to choose their color more carefully. Taking into consideration the harmony with your hair color and the base color of your skin, as well as future changes in your hair color, gradually approaching your ideal color through multiple treatments will lead to a natural finish that you will have no regrets about.

Summary of points
  • If you apply it too dark, it will be difficult to correct, so it is safer to gradually adjust it from a lighter shade.
  • The color will vary depending on your skin type, and those with oily skin need to choose the color more carefully.
  • In addition to matching with your hair color and skin tone, consider future changes in hair color.
  • Rather than aiming for completion in one session, we will complete the treatment in two or more sessions.

Points to note on the day of counseling and treatment

In order to achieve the ideal result, it is important to share your image before the treatment.
Providing an image of how you want your brows to look makes it easier to share the finished look. Additionally, providing specific examples of brows you want to avoid, such as "too thick" or "too sharply angled," can further reduce the risk of mismatch or failure. Also, by not shaving or plucking your brows before the treatment and keeping them as natural as possible when you visit, we can create a design that takes advantage of your natural hair flow, growth patterns, and facial expressions.
In addition, if you come to the clinic wearing your usual makeup, it will be easier for us to make suggestions based on your preferences and the atmosphere you want. Preparing your skin before the treatment is also important to ensure a consistent finish.

Summary of points
  • Prepare an image of what you want to achieve and share the final image
  • Specific examples of eyebrow styles to avoid, such as "too thick" or "too sharp" are also provided.
  • Before the procedure, do not shave or pluck your eyebrows, and come to the clinic with your natural eyebrows intact.
  • Come to the clinic wearing your usual makeup and tell us your preferences and the look you want.

About removing eyebrow art

Eyebrow art will gradually fade over time, but it will not disappear completely. If you wish to have it removed, treatment with a pico laser or Q-switched ruby laser is available, but depending on the type of pigment and how deeply it has settled, it may not completely return to your original skin condition. Depending on the color and how well it has settled, it may not respond well, or multiple treatments may be required. Also, depending on the condition of the area to be removed, laser irradiation may be difficult, so please consult us first. The treatment fee is 29,800 JPY for one eyebrow.

Treatment overview

Duration of treatment 2 to 3 hours
Side effects There may be some redness after the treatment.Redness usually subsides within 1 to 2 days, but it may take up to a week. (During this period, you cannot use scrubs, etc.) Internal bleeding, swelling, infection, or allergies may occur.
Points to note Moisturize your skin as it helps the skin regenerate and improves the color retention. To prevent infection, please refrain from using facilities that are used by an unspecified number of people, such as make-up, swimming pools, hot springs, and saunas, to avoid secondary infection.

*Pain, downtime, and effects vary from person to person.
*The treatment time does not include counseling time.
*Pregnant women cannot undergo any treatments.

Eyebrow art side effects, downtime, aftercare, and precautions

Immediately after treatment, the color will become darker temporarily.

The color will be dark immediately after treatment. It will be darkest between the second and fourth days, but will gradually fade after that.
It will take about a week for the color to darken by half, and over time it will settle into a natural color.

On average, it takes 2-3 treatments to complete the treatment.

After the first treatment, unevenness, differences between the left and right sides, and changes in color may occur.
Therefore, the treatment is performed in two to three sessions, one to two months apart, and the shape and color are gradually adjusted until the treatment is complete.
Once established, we recommend touch-ups every 1-2 years depending on the condition.

Aftercare determines the outcome

After the procedure, apply Vaseline for 3 days to 1 week. Moisturizing the skin will help it regenerate and improve pigment retention.
On the day of treatment, try to avoid getting the area wet as much as possible, and apply plenty of Vaseline to protect the treatment area before getting it wet.
Avoid cleansing the treated area for one week.

Do not forcefully peel off the scab

From around the second day after the procedure, you may experience itching, thin scabs, or peeling skin.
If you try to peel it off forcefully, the pigment that is starting to set may come off with it, so moisturize the area and wait for it to peel off naturally.

It will gradually fade but will not disappear completely

Eyebrow art will gradually fade due to metabolism and skin turnover, but it will not disappear completely.
Therefore, it is important to create a natural design that takes into account changes and maintenance over the next few years.

Cases where it tends to be difficult to establish

The dye may not adhere well in the following cases:

  • Those with oily skin ––– If you have a lot of sebum, your skin is more likely to smudge and lose its color.
  • Those with thin skin ––– You may bleed easily during the procedure, and the ink may run.
  • Those who exercise a lot ––– Due to active metabolism, color retention may be shortened.

If you cannot undergo treatment or if careful consideration is required

There are cases where you cannot undergo treatment or where careful consideration is required, such as if you have metal allergies, are prone to keloids, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Please consult with each clinic for details.

FAQ

Is eyebrow art different from tattooing?

Yes, it is different.
Eyebrow permanent makeup fixes pigments to the very shallow layer of the skin, so it gradually fades over time due to skin metabolism (turnover). Unlike tattoos, it does not remain forever, and its advantage is that the design can be adjusted in the future to suit changes in age or preferences.

Can I have thin eyebrows? Will they always be thick?

It is also possible to achieve thin eyebrows.
The result is a naturally thin brow right after the procedure, and we aim to create a natural look even when you're not wearing makeup. The thickness and feel will be confirmed and adjusted during the consultation, so there's no need to worry about your brows looking too drawn.

How long does eyebrow art last?

Although this varies from person to person, the guideline is about 1 to 2 years.
Although it varies depending on your metabolism and lifestyle, your lashes will gradually become thinner. If you want to maintain their condition, most people will have retouching done about every year.

Is eyebrow art treatment painful?

We use topical anesthesia and perform the procedure with care to minimize pain.
Sensitivity varies from person to person, but many people feel a slight tingling sensation or a tolerable level of pain, and it is not a treatment that causes strong pain. If you are worried about pain, please consult us in advance.

Is there any downtime for eyebrow art?

You may experience darker skin and slight peeling for a few days.
In most cases, the symptoms will subside within a few days to a week and will not cause any major disruption to your daily life.

Can eyebrow art be completed in one session?

Generally, it is completed in two or three steps.
The color is hard to settle in the first coat and often ends up looking light, so it is common to fine-tune the color and shape on subsequent coats to improve the finished look.

Can I choose the shape and design of my eyebrows?

We will listen to your wishes during the consultation and work together to decide on the design.
After checking your bone structure, facial muscle movements, and overall facial balance, we will suggest eyebrows that will blend naturally with you.

Can eyebrow art be removed?

It will fade over time, but it won't disappear completely.
If you want to remove it, you will need medical treatment such as laser. Depending on the color and depth, it may not be possible to completely restore the original skin condition, and a slight color may remain, so we recommend a design that is not too intense, assuming future retouching.
