“What is a Q-switch ruby laser?”
Q-switched ruby lasers have the property of being well absorbed by blue, black, and brown colors. It is expected to be highly effective for treating spots and freckles on both the epidermis and dermis, and can effectively treat most spots and bruises.
When the laser irradiates the surface of the skin, it passes through the epidermis and hits the melanin pigment inside the skin, which causes age spots and bruises, it generates heat and destroys it. The Q-switched ruby laser only reacts to melanin pigments, allowing treatment with minimal damage to normal skin.
Features of Q-switch ruby laser

Expected results with just one treatment
Q-switched ruby laser is a very powerful treatment for age spots and birthmarks. Therefore, high effects can be expected with just one treatment.

Effective for both epidermis and dermis
We effectively treat a variety of stains and birthmarks of different nature, from epidermal spots, freckles, and moles to dermal birthmarks and pigmentation using powerful laser heat.

Since it works only on the melanin pigment that causes spots and bruises inside the skin, it is possible to treat with minimal damage to normal skin tissue.
-
Point
Treatment is possible only on an outpatient basis
Since a scalpel is not used, the treatment does not leave any scars, and the downtime (swelling and redness after the treatment) is short, so the treatment can be done with just an outpatient visit.

short treatment time
Q-switched ruby lasers work on blemishes and bruises by emitting effective heat energy in a flash-like flash of light.

Mechanism of ruby laser treatment
-
Stains and bruises occur
There are various types of spots and birthmarks, and they appear brown, blue, or black depending on the degree and depth of the increase in melanin pigment.
-
Irradiate ruby laser
Ruby laser uses powerful energy to destroy melanin tissue deep in the skin (dermis). While minimizing damage to the skin, it is also effective on stains and bruises that exist deep within the dermis.
-
Excretes and decomposes melanin pigment
The pigment is excreted to the body surface over a period of several weeks to several months, although this varies by location and individual.
-
after that
As the destroyed melanin pigment progresses, spots and bruises will gradually improve and your skin will return to normal.

Precautions after laser irradiation
- For about 10 days after irradiation, you will be asked to use a dressing (skin-colored tape) and topical preparation (paint) on the irradiated area to protect it from scratches and sunlight.
- Please be careful not to get the affected area wet for 24 hours after irradiation.
- A scab will form on the irradiated area, but it will fall off naturally in about a week, so please do not force it.
- During the first month after irradiation, the spots may appear darker again due to transient post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It usually fades and disappears naturally in about 1 to 2 months.
- There may be temporary symptoms of redness, hot flashes, and swelling in and around the irradiated area.
Transparent protective tape for applying makeup
At our hospital, we ask that you apply ointment and tape to the affected area for about 10 days after laser irradiation to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
How to apply transparent protective tape
-
application of ointment
Apply the ointment provided to the irradiated area. (Apply with a cotton swab, etc.)
-
Cutting the transparent protective tape
Cut approximately 5mm wider than the laser irradiation area. (If there are corners, it will peel off easily, so please cut off the corners as much as possible.)
-
Protective paper peeling
Slowly peel off the blue paper. (Please be careful not to get any transparent adhesive tape attached.)
-
pasting
Align the center of the tape with the irradiation area, press it firmly with your hand, and then peel off the white release paper.
(Press the edges especially well)* Gently tap the tape from the surface to the periphery with a damp cotton or cotton swab to increase its adhesion to the skin.
The area around the tape becomes even less noticeable.
Key points of transparent protective tape
- When removing the white release paper, press the edge of the tape well to make it easier to remove the white release paper. At this time, be careful not to let the edges lift up.
- Please be sure to replace the tape once every 1 to 3 days, or if the area around the tape begins to peel off.
- Makeup can be applied over the tape. (Makeup order: ① Apply ointment to the irradiated area ② Apply tape ③ Base (sunscreen) ④ Foundation ⑤ Powder)

How to remove pasted tape
When removing the tape
- [Method 1] Gently rub the edge of the tape with a tissue soaked in natural oil (squalane oil, etc.).
- [Method 2] Gently lift the edge of the tape with a bandage, etc., and find the beginning of peeling off.
Peel direction
Slowly peel it off while holding the skin with your hand.
Precautions when using “transparent protective tape”
When removing the tape
- Be sure to keep the protective tape on for about 10 days, as pigmentation can easily occur due to sunburn or friction after irradiation.
- The recommended time to replace the tape is within 1 to 3 days, and if the surrounding area begins to peel off, replace it immediately.
- If you experience rash, redness, or severe itching after using the transparent protective tape, please stop using it and contact our clinic.
- It may be difficult to remove because it is a very thin tape, but please remove it slowly and do not use your fingernails to try to remove it.

FAQ
- Will the stain disappear in one go?
- Most stains can be removed in one go, but depending on the type and depth of the stain, multiple laser treatments may be required.
- Q: Does the Switch Ruby Laser hurt?
- Before laser irradiation, a numbing cream is applied to the affected area to cool it down to minimize pain. ``It feels like a rubber band snapping.''
- Is it safe to undergo laser treatment during pregnancy?
- During pregnancy, age spots tend to become darker due to the influence of hormones, so our clinic does not perform treatments on pregnant women.Treatment after childbirth is recommended.
- There are spots around the eyes. Can it be irradiated with laser?
- Laser treatment is performed using special contact lenses, so your eyes will not be affected.
- Is protective tape necessary after laser treatment?
- At our hospital, we ask that you apply ointment and apply protective tape to the irradiated area for 7 to 10 days after laser irradiation (until the scab is completely gone). The irradiated area will remain inflamed for several days, so applying friction or exposure to ultraviolet rays may make it worse. With proper post-treatment treatment, the stains will disappear.
- Due to my work schedule, I cannot apply tape to the affected area.
- We also have transparent protective tape that is less noticeable.Transparent masking tape is highly durable and it is possible to apply makeup over the tape, making it easier for people in the customer service industry and sales staff to receive treatment. Please contact our staff for details.
- Brown protective tape: Free (included in treatment fee)
- Transparent protective tape: 1,000 yen (actual cost)
- Can I wear makeup after treatment?
- We ask that you use ointment and protective tape from the day of treatment until the scab falls off.You can also apply foundation after the scab falls off.Be sure to take precautions against UV rays.
*If you use transparent protective tape, you can apply makeup over the tape. - On the 4th day after treatment, it started to scab. What should I do?
- If you forcefully remove the healed scab, there is a risk of pigmentation. Please be careful not to irritate the scab until it falls off naturally. Also, even if the scab falls off, please treat it with ointment and protective tape for at least 10 days.
- How long should I continue the treatment?
- If more than 10 days have passed since treatment and the scab has fallen off and turned pink, stop using the ointment tape and protective tape. However, please continue to avoid rubbing the treatment area or using harsh cosmetics.
- One month after laser irradiation, the stains became darker again.
- Although there are individual differences, the pink irradiated area will gradually become darker after one month of laser treatment. This is called ``post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation'' and is pigmentation that occurs during the healing process of a wound. It gradually fades and disappears over time. (About 1 months to 3 months)
- Can the stains come back?
- After treatment, there is a possibility of recurrence due to factors such as friction and the effects of ultraviolet rays.It is necessary to prevent the stain from recurring by taking proper sun protection and avoiding rubbing the affected area as much as possible.
